DANBURY — The city has received a $2.65 million state grant to fully cover upgrades to the White Street and Locust Avenue intersection.

The project includes dedicated turning lanes and pedestrian safety improvements.

“The impact is going to be tremendous,” Antonio Iadarola, public works director and city engineer, told City Council members at their meeting last week.

Traffic signals from the garage at Western Connecticut State University to Federal Road will also be re-timed.

“All of those lights will be pretty much working together and communicate together to have the most efficient movement of traffic,” Iadarola said.

The city will only need to pay for the design of the project. Construction could start as soon as the late summer or early fall and is expected to take 18 months, Iadarola said.
