Sabrina Olsen, of Thomaston, was clearly the class of the Berkshire League girls cross country field Oct. 18 in Thomaston.

Just as surely, Clara Wolfe, of Shepaug Valley High, was better than everyone else in the 58-runner field.

The Spartan senior clocked 20:39.1 for her five-kilometer tour of picturesque Black Rock State Park to claim second place individually in her final Berkshire cross country event.

Olsen raced home in 19:33 to win her second BL individual title.

She and her Golden Bear teammates eased to victory with 35 points.

Coach Mike Hall's Spartan girls finished sixth of nine teams with 154 points.

Contributing for the Region 12 pack were Kelsey Hall (17th, 22:27), Sarah Williams (41st, 24:48.3), Alejandra Cespedes (44th, 25:10), Jemma Roche (50th, 25:55.4), Emma Lovelace (55th, 29:13.2) and Lauren Deroschers (58th, 30:49.3).

The Spartan boys checked in fifth with 95 points in a 10-team Berkshire field.

Lewis Mills captured team laurels with 53 points.

Clayton Firmender (11th, 17:47.2), Ed Wolfe (13th, 17:54.1) and Erik Quist (17th, 18:14.3) earned top 20 finishes for coach Tom Scarola's squad.

Rounding out the Shepaug contingent were Sean Parker (26th, 18:47), Quinton Walsh (28th, 18:56.2), Niko Fiorito (33rd, 19:28) and Steve Williams (50th, 20:51) in a 70-runner field.

Both Spartans teams will compete Saturday, Oct. 26 at Wickham Park in Manchester in quest of state Class S honors.
