Coach: Mike Gorra, 6th season as head coach, 11th overall.

Assistant coaches: Jason Conway and Steven Cornell.

2012-13 record: 7-13.

Noteworthy accomplishments: One win shy of state tournament qualification; most wins since the 2003-04 season; Andrew Loya was first team all-South-West Conference and second team Division III all-state.

Losses to graduation or otherwise: Tyler Smith, Ryan Gannon, Greg Valentine, Gavin Hauspurg, Tony Graziani and Katie Butler graduated and Brendan Dowler and Mike Galinski did not try out for the team.

2013-14 captains: Kevin Boylan (captain); Andrew Loya and Christian Stuart (alternates).

Coach's outlook: "Andrew Loya (Shepaug), the 2012-13 team and South-West Conference leader in points with 20 goals and 11 assists, and Christian Stuart (Shepaug) will welcome experienced players in Will Kopley (Shepaug), Nick Ganio (Litchfield), David Demeo (Shepaug) and Griffin Smith (Nonnewaug), who will step right in and contribute plenty. Veterans Drew Benjamin (Nonnewaug) and Kyle Goldstein (Shepaug), as well as newcomers Griffin McIntyre (Litchfield), Thomas Roche (Shepaug) and Madeline Gorra (Shepaug), give us options and depth on offense.

"The defense will be anchored by captain Kevin Boylan (Nonnewaug), Sam Jones (Shepaug), Travis Fitch (Shepaug) and Aleksey Warner (Nonnewaug). Newcomer Jake Perda (Nonnewaug) will see plenty of time on the blue line as well. Creighton Moore (Shepaug), Bobby Wilson (Shepaug) and Peter LaFerriere (Nonnewaug) will earn shifts as they gain experience.

"The key, however, to our season will be the way our goalie, freshman Will Slohm (Litchfield), adjusts to the speed of the high school game. It goes without saying we are praying for a healthy season for Will, our only full-time goalie.

"We are in a new league this season as the South-West Conference and the Southern Connecticut Conference have merged for ice hockey. A very reasonable goal for us is to compete in both the league and state tournaments. However, recapturing the Berkshire Cup from Housatonic Valley is first priority."
