The Sherman Park & Recreation Department offers programs throughout the year.
Wintertime office hours at Sherman School are Saturdays from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Phone messages at 860-354-3629 will be returned on Thursdays. For registration or more information, check www.townofshermanct.org/parkrec.html.
Skiing at Thunder Ridge
Signup will be open Saturday, Dec. 27 for numerous skiing or snowboarding classes and rentals at Thunder Ridge in Patterson, N.Y. Cost for six hour and a half lessons will be $120. Cost for lift ticket and lessons will be $210. Cost for lift, lessons and rentals will be $360. Students must have a six-week lift ticket or season pass.
A trail over the mountain extending from the town park to Colonial Park is open to residents.
Registration for the 2015 boating season is still available. Cost is $950. Applications are available Saturday mornings at the rec office.
The Saturday morning basketball program for first- to sixth-graders directed by Bob Ostrosky and parent volunteers will begin Saturday, Jan. 10 at Sherman School. Cost will be $35 for eight weeks. Children in grades K-3 will play from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m.; those in grade 4-5 will play from 10:45 to noon. Signup is available on opening day.
Open volleyball for Sherman residents is played Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Sherman School gym.
Open basketball for Sherman residents is played Tuesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Sherman School gym.
Yoga supervised by Helen Ostrosky is offered Saturdays from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the Sherman School library. Drop-in cost is $10 per class. Each participant is advised to wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat.
