Sherman Park & Recreation notes

The Sherman Park & Recreation Department offers programs throughout the year.

Office hours at Sherman School generally are Saturdays from 9 to 11:30 a.m.

Skiing at Thunder Ridge

Numerous skiing or snowboarding classes and rentals are available at Thunder Ridge in Patterson, N.Y. Discounts are available on Thursdays for Sherman residents.

Ice skating

Skating is available as weather conditions permit at Schimpf Pond.

Family swim

Residents can swim at the New Fairfield High School pool as part of a program in cooperation with New Fairfield Park and Recreation.

Boat moorings

Registration for the 2014 boating season is still available.

Applications are avaiable Saturday mornings at the Park and Recreation office.


Monday classes of USA Martial Arts will start Monday, March 10 at 6:30 p.m. in the multi-purpose room at Sherman School.

Those aged 7 to 65 are welcome.

Cost will be $80 for a 10-week session, with a family discount available. Participants under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent for the first class.

Nature trail

A trail over the mountain extending from the town park to Colonial Park is open to residents.


Registration for 2014 will begin in April.



An after-school program for schoolchildren in grades K-8 meets weekdays from 3 to 6 p.m. during the school year under the direction of Danielle Christie and Jody Clark.



Open volleyball for Sherman residents is played Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Sherman School gym.
