Four area high schools recently received grants of $150 each from runners in the Roxbury road race series.
New Milford High School, as well as Oxford, Nonnewaug and Brookfield, was given a grant to help improve the Green Wave cross country or track and field programs.
Money is raised throughout the Roxbury race series season. In all, more than $34,000 has been raised by the runners since 1996.
NMHS expects to put the funds toward buying reflective gear and athletic bags.
Runners in the weekly series have provided funds to area high schools every year since 2000. A letter is sent to the six area high schools each November and a committee, consisting of some of the series' runners, selects the recipients.
Part of the money from the ongoing fundraising also is used to buy T-shirts for the series' runners each November.
