Roxbury mid-autumn race to raise money for high school grants

The Roxbury Road Runners Club race series will generate money for its 19th annual grants campaign at its Mid-Autumn Championship race.
The 3.9-mile run, which will include a trip along a jeep trail, will be held on Nov. 4 at 8:30 a.m., starting and finishing near the Everett Hurlburt Community Park at 18 Apple Lane in Roxbury. There will be a $5 entry fee which can be paid that morning from 7 to 8:20 a.m.
Proceeds will benefit the grants which the series has awarded each year since 2000. The series will provide at least $600 collectively in 2018. Coaches and athletic directors at Oxford, Brookfield, Shepaug Valley, Pomperaug, New Milford and Nonnewaug high schools have been invited to submit proposals on what they would do with at least some portion of that funding to improve their cross country or track and field programs.
The proposals are due by March 31, 2018. A committee will review them and announced the winners in April.
In 2017, the series awarded $400 to Pomperaug to purchase medicine balls for its training center and $200 to New Milford to send a runner to summer camp.
Runners can enter the races in the weekly Roxbury series through the $50 season membership or the $5 weekly waiver. Contact race director Scott Benjamin at ScottBenjaminWCSU2014@gmail.com or 860-354-3521, or look online at RoxburyRaces.net.
