Unseeded David Riddle, of Gaylordsville, and Patricia Dengler, of New Milford, emerged as champions this fall in the annual New Milford Open tennis tournament.

The event was organized by Todd Nicholson of The Player's Edge Tennis Association.

Sponsors included Union Savings Bank and the host New Milford Tennis & Swim Club.

Competition was offered in men's open singles, women's open singles, men's 3.0 singles, men's 3.5 singles, men's 4.5 singles, men's 55 singles and mixed doubles.

The surprising Riddle/Dengler tandem defeated Peter Schwarz, of New Milford, and Laura Miller, of Sandy Hook, 6-0, 6-1, in the mixed doubles championship match.

They earlier had upset top seeded Marc Nadeau and Nancy Inglese, 6-3, 6-4, in the semifinals.

The respective men's and women's open singles champions were second-seeded Graham Alrutz, of Middletown, and top-seeded Patricia Delorso, of Newington.
