The 28th edition of the Polar Bear Run around Lake Waramaug will kick off Sunday at 11 a.m. near the tennis courts of Lake Waramaug Country Club in New Preston.

Race-day registration for the 7.66-mile event at $22 will be available.

Snow date would be March 4.

"The event continues to be popular because it is the first large area race as runners come out of winter hibernation to test their fitness level," said race director Dave Dunleavy. "It's also a good way to break the ice, so to speak, for runners who are training for the Boston Marathon."

Cash awards of $100, $75 and $50 will be given to the top three respective male and female runners.

For more information, call Dave Dunleavy at 860-927-1332 or 860-309-6286, or email dunleavyrun@aol.com.

Parking will be limited so car-pooling is encouraged.
