The 2017 inaugural class of the New Milford High School Athletic Hall of Fame is being finalized and will be announced soon, according to a press release issued by the hall of fame organization.

The first induction banquet ceremony will be held Oct. 28 at Fairview Farm Golf Course in Harwinton. Ticket information will be announced when the 2017 induction class is announced.

The organization had its start in 2009 but suspended its efforts in 2011 until the summer of 2016. Its eight-person committee comprises Norm Cummings (president), Leslie Schlemmer (vice president), Bethany Mihaly (treasurer), Nicole Nocera (secretary), Art Cummings, Patrick Heaton, Dawn Hough and Ted Zaloski.

All committee members are New Milford High alumni and former Green Wave student-athletes except Mihaly, who has coached New Milford gymnastics, and for a time, Green Wave divers, since the late 1980s.

Hough and Nocera also are or have been Green Wave varsity coaches, and Heaton serves as the Greenwich boys basketball coach.

The hall of fame will strive to welcome a new class of inductees each year, probably in the fall. Nominations for 2018 induction will be accepted as soon as the 2017 inductees are announced. Candidates may be former Green Wave athletes, coaches, teams or individuals who were supporters of the New Milford High School sports program.
