New Milford 3rd at Class L wrestling
BRISTOL — The New Milford boys wrestling team finished third at the CIAC Class L wrestling championships Saturday, with three wrestlers winning individual state titles.
Only Xavier-Middletown, which won its first state ttile since 2012, also had three individual champions at the event.
Xavier outscored Simsbury by just 2.5 points, winning 243-240.5. New Milford (166.5), three-time defending champion Bristol Eastern (165), and Bristol Central (149.5) rounded out the top five.
At 106 pounds, top seed Evan Lindbergh of New Milford scored three points in the final period and beat Bristol Eastern’s Trent Thompson, 6-4.
New Milford’s Richard Morrell pinned EO Smith’s Ethan Grous in 39 seconds in the 170-pound final.
New Milford’s Khalil Bourjeili pinned Simsbury’s John Mariano in 1:59 at 138.
At 132, Simsury’s Ty Finn shut out New Milford’s Peter Coniglio, 15-0 in the final.
Jake Coniglio pinned Pomperaug’s Joseph Mastroianni at 4:09 to finish third at 113 pounds.
At 126 pounds, New Milford’s Maximus Piel decisioned Gehad Saleh of Maloney, 8-4 for fifth place.
