Sydney Fairchild and Alyssa Santos, of New Milford, plan to spend their New Year's holiday in London, England.

The New Milford High School seniors are two of more than 500 high school cheerleaders and dancers from the United States who will perform in London's renowned New Year's Day parade.

Sydney, Alyssa and their peers were invited after being selected as All American cheerleaders at one of the summer camps hosted by Universal Cheerleaders Association.

All Americans are selected to try out based on superior cheerleading skills at camps across the country.

Only the top 12 percent of the cheerleaders who attend Varsity summer camps earn the chance to march in London.

In addition to performing in the London parade, the Green Wave cheerleaders will have the chance to tour London during their seven-day trip from Dec. 26 to Jan. 2.

"This is the 26th year we've been able to bring talented cheerleaders to London, where they can showcase their skills to a very enthusiastic, international audience," said Mike Fultz, the Varsity international event coordinator.

Coach Cindy Dubret's NMHS senior tandem has planned a series of fundraisers to enable them to pay for their trip.

Residents are asked to donate refundable recycling between now and December. The girls will pick up the bags at the end of donors' driveways each Saturday. Bags could be brought Oct. 19 to Stop and Shop during a can and bottle drive hosted by Sydney and Alyssa.

A tag sale will take place Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 4 and 5, at 122 Washington Ridge Road. Those wishing to donate items may do so.

A car wash in conjunction with Personal Touch in New Milford, both on Route 7 across from Home Depot and on Route 202 across from Dunkin Donuts, will be offered all day Oct. 12. The girls will receive 10 percent of the day's profit.

A pasta dinner and raffle will take place Oct. 26 at the VFW at 11 Avery Road in New Milford. Admission will be $10 or $25 per family.
