A week's delay due to heavy rains did nothing to deter a field of dedicated golfers from enjoying the recent Kent Charity Golf Classic.

The fourth annual event was hosted by the Kent Chamber of Commerce and the Kent Lions Club at Lake Waramaug Country Club in New Preston.

Sponsors were Charter Business and the Seth MacFarlane Foundation.

"It was a rousing success," said the chamber's Laura McLaughlin.

For a second straight year, the chamber will present two scholarships in part drawn from tournament proceeds.

Additional funds will go to other local projects.

The Lions also will award two scholarships and donate its portion of the proceeds to town projects.

Following the tournament, cChamber and Lions Club members joined the golfers for the awards dinner.

A silver punch bowl trophy donated by Scott & Bowne was presented to the low net quartet of Randy DiBella, William Franklin, Kent Mancini and Ken Taylor.

Second low net were Samson Baon, Brian Gulian, Erwin Killip and Nick Lamsis, while third place was claimed by Rick Levy, Jim Perkins, Gail Tobin and Jerry Tobin.

Earning low-gross honors were Don Bourne, Fred Cass, Tom Lindberg and Scott Palmer.

Prizes donated by area businesses were also given out for closest to the pin and long-drive winners.
