Three Kent youngsters earned age division titles this winter in the annual local Hotshot basketball contest.

The winners -- Ryan Pollitt, Rob Johnson and Ivan Rojas -- qualified to participate March 24 in in the state finals in Stratford.

The three boys were the top scorers in their respective age divisions in the Kent contest, hosted March 2 by Kent Park and Recreation at Kent Center School.

The competition, sponsored by the Connecticut Recreation and Parks Association, matches participants' basketball skills against the clock.

Boys and girls aged 9 to 15 had three one-minute rounds in which to attempt baskets from five "hotspots" on the court.

Eleven youngsters participated in the local event, reported Park and Recreation director Lesly Ferris, and each received a participation ribbon.

The top scorers each also received a basketball trophy.
