The Kent Chamber of Commerce is kicking its plans into high gear for the 37th annual Kent Pumpkin Run.

This year's race is set to start Sunday, Oct. 27, at noon in front of the Kent Town Hall.

For many participants, the race is a chance to run in costume to celebrate the arrival of the Halloween season.

The chamber will also host the Kids' Fun Run starting at 11 a.m.

The chamber is working with Kent Center School's Kids' Marathon program to encourages children to run and walk for fun and health.

Each morning before school, many local children are walking or running a mile with the goal of logging 25 miles before Oct. 27. They will then finish their 26 miles with the Kids' Fun Run.

Older children may have completed 21 miles at school and could use the five-mile Kent Pumpkin Run to finish.

Participants of all ages are enecouraged to plan a costume and wear it in the races. Prizes will be given for top costumes.

The first 100 registrants at would receive a complimentary T-shirt.

The Kent Pumpkin Run traditionally supports local chairties.

In addition to the Kent Food Bank, this year groups are running to help Julia's Wings and the Race for Aydan.

All runners are asked to bring a non-perishable food product for the Kent Food Bank.

In addition, since 2011 the Chamber has partnered with the Kent Memorial Library's car raffle, using the vehicle as a pace car, encouraging the purchase of tickets and staging the drawing on race day.
