Kent Park and Recreation notes
The Kent Park and Recreation Department is offering a variety of programs.
Office hours on the second floor at town hall are Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 2:30 p.m. Program registration forms are available outside the office weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Lessons for boys and girls aged 6 and up at the beginning and intermediate levels will meet Saturdays from 7 to 8 a.m. Jan. 4 to Feb. 22 at the Kent School ice rink at the cost of $80 for eight weeks. Registration information and the form are available at kentctparkandrecreation.com or by calling 860-927-1003.
Sessions for Center School students in grades K-6 meet school days from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Preregistered participants for after school may attend on a full or part-time basis at the cost of $11 per day including snack. Limited scholarships are available in cooperation with the Kent Community Fund. The program features homework time, indoor and outdoor activities, games, arts and crafts. Tang Soo Do
Classes meet Mondays from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. for children aged 3-6 and from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. for those aged 7 to adult at the Community House along Swifts Lane. Cost is $70 for 10 weeks and $50 for each additional family member. The program is sponsored by USA Martial Arts of Woodbury, a member of the Cheezic Tang Soo Do Karate Federation.
Sunday ice skating is available at South Kent School from 2 to 4 p.m. through Feb. 23. A park pass is required to participate and can be purchased at the rink during skating hours or in the Park and Recreation office at town hall. Participants must wear hat and skates on the ice.
Skating is available at the Kent School rink Dec. 27 from 10 a.m. to noon for sticks and pucks and from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. for open skate, and Dec. 30 from 10 a.m. to noon for open skate and from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. for sticks and pucks. A park pass is required to participate and can be purchased at the rink. Participants must wear skates and hat during open skate and helmets and skates during sticks and pucks.
A free senior art program meets Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Senior Center along Swifts Lane. Participants should bring their own supplies.
Blood pressure screening
The New Milford Visiting Nurse Association holds free monthly blood pressure screenings for Kent seniors on the first Wednesday of each month from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Senior Center along Swifts Lane. Appointments are not necessary.
Hand and chair massage for seniors is offered the third Wednesday of each month at 1:15 p.m. at the Kent Senior Center along Swifts Lane. Suggested donation is $10 per 10-minute massage.
Bus to Torrington, Danbury
Monthly transportation service to Torrington for Kent residents is provided by the Northwest Connecticut Transit District. The bus provides pickup service in Kent on the second Tuesday of each month for shopping, lunch, medical appointments, etc. between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. in Torrington. Medical appointments should be made between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Reservations are required by calling 1-866-906-7433.
