A remarkable run which began with a South-West Conference championship came to a fitting end March 9 for New Milford High School girls' indoor track's 4x400-meter

relay team.

Senior Lindsay Guptill, sophomores Sierra Grazia and Meghan Dietter and freshman Helen Bayers combined talents to earn sixth place of 37 teams in the Emerging Elite division of the New Balance national track and field championships.

The Green Wave girls captured medals by clocking 4:02.47 in competition at the Armory in New York City.

"It was so awesome to compete in this meet," said Lindsay Guptill, who broke 60 seconds for her 400-meter split, a personal best.

"(It was) definitely an excellent way to end my senior year of indoor track," she added.

The NMHS quartet had previously won the 4x400 at 4:13.34 in the SWC meet, placed fifth at 4:14 in the state Class LL meet on Feb. 9, placed sixth at 4:09.5 in the State Open on Feb. 18, and seventh at 4:02.65 in the New England championship meet.
