Ever-improving defense and consistent goaltending were among the calling cards of the 2011-12 edition of New Milford High School ice hockey.

Coach Dan Moore's Green Wave closed the books on its winter campaign recently with competition in the South-West Conference Division II and state Division II tournaments.

The 13th-seeded Green Wave bowed, 2-1, to fourth-ranked Wilton in a March 6 state tournament first-round match in Ridgefield to finish 10-11-1 overall.

The season finale marked the NMHS ice career farewell for seniors Josh Hook, Karl Lindberg, Eddie Matlack, Devon McLaughlin, Joel Steele and Mitchell White.

For the season, the Green Wave scored 53 goals and permitted 58. To its credit, the NMHS sextet got better as the year progressed, posting a 7-3-1 record for its final 11 regular-season matches.
