Green Wave girls' swim
Coach: Cheryl Caridad, 1st season
Assistant: Bethany Mihaly (diving).
2011 record, accomplishments: 2-8; qualified lots of swimmers and both divers for the South-West Conference championship meet; Maggie Heaton and Alison Profeta both placed well; also qualified individuals for state competition.
Losses to injury: Laura Gil, who is a team manager.
Coach's outlook: "The outlook is very positive. The team is extremely dedicated and focused on having a successful season as a team and as individuals. Although we graduated several athletes last season, we are in a growth year. With 33 athletes, the team is among the biggest ever and the girls are eager to learn and improve.
"We have some outstanding returnees like our junior divers, Alison Profeta and Ashley O'Berry, along with sophomore swimmers Ashley Reiske, Hanna Caridad and Jena Hook, who are all on their way to competing at SWCs.
"We have 10 freshmen and several first-year returning members rounding out the team. Two very promising freshmen are diver Alyssa Grioli and swimmer Kira Page. Alyssa is a seasoned gymnast who will take her knowledge to the diving board to score some valuable points. Freshman swimmer Kira Page brings an unparalleled spirit and love for swimming with her. She is an outstanding athlete who competes at the national level and has taken first place in the eastern zone championships in the 50-meter freestyle. Recently in the state senior long-course championships, Kira finished third place in the 100-meter backstroke against swimmers up to the age of 21. We hope all of the new swimmers will provide the point depth that has been missing in recent years."
Seniors: Alexa Collins, Jackie Flachbart, Esther Kang, Michelle Pitcher, Shelby Ruman and Brienne Saraceno.
