Green Wave girls' lacrosse learns on the job
The learning curve was long indeed for a young and untested New Milford High School girls' lacrosse side.
Graduation '13 cost the Green Wave most of its experienced talent, so it wasn't a surprise this spring's squad struggled at times for wins against a tough South-West Conference schedule.
Exemplifying that point, the girls dropped one-goal matches to Brookfield, 11-10, and Danbury, 8-7, and a pair of games by two goals each to Pomperaug, 8-6, and Joel Barlow, 10-8.
Coach John Murphy's NMHS girls posted late-season victories over Notre Dame of Fairfield, 16-5, at NMHS and over host Lauralton Hall, 8-3, in Milford.
In combination with earlier wins over non-league foe RHAM, 17-1, and Stratford, 13-2, those triumphs helped elevate the Green Wave to a final 4-12 record.
Season's end marked the close of the Green Wave lacrosse careers of seniors Ellie Arellano, Mackenzie Bessette, Dakota Casarella, Kira Gurry, Marissa Lang, Carolyn O'Hara, Rachel O`Hara and Nicole Sheehy.
