Excuse the Green Wave if it were to feel like it just experienced a gauntlet run.

Coach Brendan Talbot's New Milford High School boys' lacrosse side is now in the homestretch of one of the program's most rigorous schedules ever.

The Green Wave posted a 7-9 regular-season schedule this spring including defeats to seven rivals ranked among the best 20 in the state.

Then Monday, the NMHS crew was pitted against touted New Fairfield in the South-West Conference playoffs. The Rebels emerged on top, 10-6, but not without a tough challenge from coach Talbot and Co.

Tyler Clark and A.J. McDonald scored two goals apiece for the Green Wave, whose Devon McLaughlin and Tom DaRos contributed a goal apiece.

Matt Lalli handled the netminding for NMHS.

Last spring's Green Wave posted an 8-8 record but coach Talbot feels this year's lax edition has made strides since then.

"Our record does not reflect it," said the veteran mentor, "(but) we have greatly improved from 2011."

Reflecting the Green Wave's stature in the SWC, seniors Devon McLaughlin, James Caldwell and Tom DaRos were selected by league coaches to the SWC's Division 1 team.

New Milford will now await the seedings and pairings for the CIAC state tournament, scheduled to start next week.
