Fall sports teams from New Milford and Shepaug Valley high schools were trying this week to make their mark in respective state tournament action.

Among the highlights were the performance of the Green Wave's Mia Nahom and Stosh Davis, representing the NMHS' girls' and boys' cross country teams in the state open meet Oct. 25 at Wickham Park in Manchester.

Mia finished third in the girls' race and Stosh finished 17th in the boys' race, both thus qualifying for the prestigious New England championship meet set for Saturday at Wickham.

A week earlier, Stosh and his Green Wave harrier mates had won the state Class L title, but coach Chris Bacich's squad settled for eighth place at the State Open.
