Four New Milford-based charitable organizations will host a golf tournament to honor the memory of Jack Buczek, who was active in all four groups.

The Jack Buczek Memorial Golf Tournament will be played Wednesday, Aug. 6, at Candlewood Valley Country Club in Buczek's hometown of New Milford.

The first annual tournament, a scramble event with a 10 a.m. shotgun start, is being co-sponsored by the New Milford Lions Club, VFW Post 1672, Boy Scout Troop 58 and Harrybrooke Park as a celebration of Buczek's life.

Buczek, who died Nov. 15 at the age of 65, was a graduate of New Milford High School, a decorated Vietnam War veteran, a successful master craftsman for more than 30 years in his construction company, and an active community volunteer.

"Jack Buczek humbly wore many hats but never sought recognition of any kind over his incredible lifetime," observed Cliff Ricci, chairman of the Buczek tournament.

Ricci noted Buczek served as managing director of Harrybrooke Park; was a past president of the Lions Club and recipient of the highest International Lions Club award; was an Eagle Scout and scout leader of Troop 432 and strong supporter of Troop 58; and was presented numerous medals for his service in Vietnam in 1968-69 with the 101st Airborne Division.

"Most importantly," Ricci said, "Jack was a true and loyal friend and a devoted family man."

The tournament will include a continental breakfast, lunch and dinner, competitive prizes and a raffle.

The entry fee is $500 per foursome, or $135 per individual golfer.

Net proceeds will benefit the four sponsoring groups.
