Studio D in New Milford climaxed the celebration of its 10th anniversary recently with a gala dance festival at New Milford High School.
The evening featured performances by current students and alumni, as well as Studio D artistic director Rebecca Anderson Darling and many of her past and present instructors.
The show offered favorite dances from past productions, including "The Wizard of Oz," "Bedtime Stories," "Cinderella," "Alice in Wonderland," "Mary Poppins" and "Snow White," and a selection of new dances.
The evening also was highlighted by the dance company's D-Tour, which performed its "Reflections" program that premiered in January at Carnegie Hall's "Voices in Motion."
Studio D began in 2004 in the space formerly occupied by the Maria Calegari School of Ballet, located above the bicycle shop in a building formerly located at the corner of Bridge and East streets in New Milford.
The school moved to its present location at 27 Main Street in 2007.
In 10 years, Studio D has grown from its original enrollment of 40 students, four teachers and one studio to its current enrollment of more than 200 students, a teaching staff of 10, four studio spaces and a dance company.
Over the years, the variety of classes has increased from ballet, jazz, modern, pilates and yoga to include acrobatics/gymnastics, street dance, hip hop, contemporary, theater dance, tap, creative movement, choreography classes and an art program.
