JPS read-a-thon in full swing

The first annual John Pettibone School PTO read-a-thon is up and running through Sunday, Oct. 31.
Students are encouraged to read, or be read to, for at least 20 minutes each day, keeping track of the total number of minutes read.
Each classroom aims to read a total of 16,000 minutes in class and at home; the schoolwide goal is 350,000 minutes.
The PTO will provide prizes to students who reach certain fundraising benchmarks, and every classroom reaching its reading goal will win a pizza party.
The fundraiser will help the PTO fund cultural and literature week programs, assist with field trip funding and sponsor the art cart.
Thirty percent of the funds raised during the read-a-thon will benefit the school's library and the reading specialists who help fund the library's programs.
