Work has begun on the first stage of the renovation of Housatonic Valley Regional High School's old vocational-agricultural building.

The announcement was recently made by the 21st Century Fund for HVHRS Advisory Board and the Roundtable of Build the Green Professsionals.

The Falls Village school serves students from Kent, as well as those from other northwestern Connecticut towns.

The building will be renovated into a state-of-the-art green science and technology center.

In June, the Build Green Professionals secured a $196,000 grant from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

That, along with more than $200,000 raised by the 21st Century Fund and its action committee, will allow workers to complete the first stage of the project.
