The New Milford High School Green Heat drumline and winter guard played host recently for the Musical Arts Conference event and a USBands competition at NMHS.

Yet the school's talented student performers didn't let the occasion pass without offering strong exhibitions of their own respective talents.

Sixteen teams representing Brookfield, Danbury, Monroe, Milford, Newtown, Shelton, Trumbull, West Milford and Nutley, N.J., were on hand Feb. 15 for the Musical Arts event.

A week later, the USBands event featured teams from Cheshire, Stamford, Stratford and Independent Guard Plainfield (Central Village).

NMHS students Jaclyn Mercer and Rebecca Myhill opened the USBands event by singing "The Star Spangled Banner."

"They're true family events," said Christine Pahner, the event organizer. "The shows provide hours of music and pageantry as the students put their talents on display in a judged competition."
