Canterbury to stage 'Once Upon A Mattress'

Students at Canterbury School in New Milford are in rehearsal for their springtime presentation of the Broadway musical hit, "Once Upon A Mattress."

Free performances will be offered May 8 and 9 at the school's Maguire Auditorium.

Doors will open at 7:30 both evenings for 8 p.m. curtains.

The play is a comedy with book by Jay Thompson, Dean Fuller and Marshall Barer, music by Mary Rodgers and lyrics by Marshall Barer.

"Once Upon A Mattress" opened in 1960 on Broadway.

Among the cast are Jonah LaVigne, of New Milford, as the wizard; Loren Winters, of Sherman, as Queen Agravain; Lily Johns, of New Milford, as Lady Larkin; Tristan Kane, of New Milford, as Sir Luce; and Lucy Sowerby and Molly Street, both of New Milford, as ladies in waiting.

Chorus members include Jenna Trezza, of New Milford, and Claire Cardillo, of Sherman.

The crew, led by stage manager Ally Eggleton, of Thomaston, and assistant stage manager Henry Garcia, of Newburgh, N.Y., includes Tristan Kane, Thomas Esposito, Ildiko Sandor and Olivia Binzen, all of New Milford, and Arcy Cook, of Sherman.

The show is directed by Madeline Dreeke and produced by Robin Dreeke.
