ASAP to offer music project

The Inter-District Music Project for students in grades 6 through 12 will begin Jan. 5 at the Waterbury Arts Magnet School through its association with the After Schools Arts Program in Washington.
Students will be taught about rhythms and chants around the world, performed on hand drums such as the West African djembe, North African dumbek and Afro-Cuban conga.
The workshops will take place Jan. 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, 26, 27 and 28, and Feb. 2, 3, 9 and 10 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Waterbury school. Performances will take place Feb. 4 and 11.
Transportation will be provided from Shepaug Valley Middle High School in Washington at 2:30 p.m. Students will return at 6:15 p.m.
Woodbury Middle School will also provide transportation at 2:50 p.m., with return slated at 6 p.m.
The class will cost $120 for Region 12 residents and $160 for non-residents, with financial aid available.
Financial aid is available for those in need.
