WATERBURY - A 38-year-old man is dead after he was shot while talking to a friend on a rear porch Friday night, police said.

At 10:26 a.m. police were called to 167 Madison St. for a report that someone was shot, said Lt. David Silverio.

“The victim and a friend were on the back porch talking when one gunshot was heard. The victim fell to the floor. The friend checked on the victim, saw a bleeding wound to his back and called 911,” Silverio said in a release.

The victim was transported to Saint Mary’s Hospital by ambulance.

“The male victim was suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. The victim was pronounced deceased on Friday at 11:06 p.m.,” Silverio said.

The identity of the victim is pending confirmation by the Office of Chief Medical Examiner and notification to the next of kin.

The detectives and the Crime Scene Unit of the Forensic Division responded to assist in the investigation.

The medical examiner will also determine the manner and cause of death.
