WASHINGTON — The driver involved in a Monday evening accident on Wykeham Road said black ice caused him to lose control and crash into a utility pole.

Firefighters and EMS were called to Wykeham Road near Golf Course Road for a vehicle versus a pole around 4:45 p.m.

“Black ice got me, even at slow speeds,” the 35-year-old driver wrote on Facebook later that night.

Traffic was blocked off from the area as emergency personnel responded to the scene, and Eversource was notified of the cracked utility pole.

The driver was uninjured but transported to New Milford Hospital for assessment, according to dispatch reports.

The driver said he was OK, “just sore and shaken up a bit.”

His vehicle, however, sustained heavy damage and was towed from the scene.

“Huge thanks to the wonderful PD, EMS, Washington Depot Ambulance,” he wrote, “and for the amazing people who stopped to help me out tonight.”
