Cops: Driver in Bethel crash was ‘seemingly impaired’
BETHEL — The driver involved in Wednesday’s early morning crash on Benedict Road showed signs of impairment, according to police.
Emergency personnel were called to a report of a rollover crash at 54 Benedict Road around 1:20 a.m. and found a driver trapped inside a wrecked Mazda3 that had hit a house.
Police officers freed the driver from the vehicle and began medical treatment prior to the arrival of firefighters and EMS, according to the Stony Hill Volunteer Fire Department.
“The operator, a 23-year-old male from Bethel, was responsive but seemingly impaired,” Lt. George Bryce said.
In addition to the house on Benedict Road, three locations on Ridgedale Road sustained property damage, according to police.
Bryce said the driver, who was transported to Danbury Hospital, was the only one injured and the case is still under investigation.
