Lions extend their thanks for Fall Fest

To the Editor:

The New Milford Lions Club would like to thank the entire town and surrounding communities for making its first annual Fall Festival and Car Show at Harrybrooke Park a huge success.

The event was held as a joint fundraiser for the New Milford Lions Club for its' numerous contributions to the community and for Harrybrooke Park.

The positive feedback from the community has been overwhelming. Our vision of a simple, old-time country fair proved to be something the town of New Milford was longing for.

The pride and enthusiasm in the voices of the residents as they dropped off their scarecrows or pies to be judged in the competitions was something to be experienced.

The smiles on children's faces as they found an item in the scavenger hunt or won a prize at a game stayed with them as they left the park.

I would like to quote a statement made from one of our vendors: "This was the only fair I've ever been to that is what a fair is supposed to be. I've only ever seen these on TV."

This is exactly what the New Milford Lions Club was striving to accomplish. It was an event that the community was able to be part of and involved in, rather than being merely a spectator.

Congratulations to our winners: Model A Ford winner Ronald Emond of Bridgewater; hot wings eating contest winner Dave Guest; apple pie baking contest: first, Eilen Cote, second - Anette Demague, third - Sarah and Madeline Stone.

Pumpkin pie baking contest: first - Zoe Miolla, second - Emma Faulenbach, third - Sally Rinehart; scarecrow contest: junior class, first - Ryan and Caitlin Fanella, second - Jaden Herbest, third - Alyssa Paist; scarecrow contest, adult class, first - the Miola family, second - Sharon Ward, third - Prudential Adams; guessing game winner - Mimi Dattilo.

A special thanks goes out to our local car club, Paradice Classic Cruisers. Due to Friday's rains, we had to resort to a backup plan for parking the more than 100 show cars that attended the event.

Besides the promotional help we received from Paradice Classic Cruisers, they were on hand to help with parking the cars and tallying the votes.

The New Milford Lions Club would like to thank all those who made this a successful event.
