The state Department of Public Health on Friday reported an additional 55 fatalities in the corornavirus pandemic, along with a net decrease of 76 hospitalizations.

Hospitalizations Friday were totaled at 740, the lowest since March 31. Hospitalizations have declined every day since April 16. The new deaths brought the state total to 3,637 since the first fatality on March 17.

In addition, 432 new cases of COVID-19 were reported, for a total of 39,640.

The DPH posted the totals at about 4 p.m. Usually, Gov. Ned Lamont sumarizes the statistics during his daily news conference, but there was no such briefing on Friday, the start of the Memorial Day holiday weekend. Twitter: @KenDixonCT
