NEW MILFORD — The Board of Education is scheduled to appoint an interim superintendent of school Friday at a special board meeting.

Candidates will be interviewed by the board in executive session with the appointment and contract between the interim and the board voted on in a public session following. The special meeting is Friday at 6 p.m. in the Lillis Administration Building on Elm Street.

Superintendent of Schools JeanAnn Paddyfote announced in September that she will retire effective Jan. 31, 2016. She began her career in New Milford schools in 1981 as the head of special services, then served as director of pupil personnel until 2001. She became superintendent in 2005 after serving three years as interim superintendent and one year as assistant superintendent.

The board decided to bring in an interim superintendent early before Paddyfote leaves the district to work with her. The education budget is due Feb. 1, by town charter. The board will hire a search firm to find an initial round of candidates for the superintendent position.
