Fans attending athletic and other outdoor events at New Milford High School won't soon have to face using what have been described as "disgusting" porta-potties at the Joseph Wiser Athletic Complex.

During Tuesday's meeting, the town's Zoning Commission approved the construction of bathrooms on the north side of the Booster Club barn.

"The porta-potties are disgusting to use and expensive to have on site," said Marty Monteiro, the New Milford High School Booster Club president.

"They're largely unused," he added, used only as a last resort by parents and visitors.

The Booster Club plans to build handicapped-accessible, six-stall men's and women's restrooms on the north side of the barn.

The club's goal is to start the $40,000 project this summer and have it completed in three to six months.

With ther zoners' approval, the next step is to get an additional approval from the Planning Commission, since the high school will be maintaining the restrooms once they are constructed.

The Boosters will donate the restrooms to the school.
