Applications for the Harris Family Scholarship for the 2018-19 academic year are available for New Milford students pursuing college study in an agricultural field.
The scholarship is available through the Connecticut Community Foundation.
To apply, use the “Special Scholarship” form at conncf.org/apply-for-scholarships.
The scholarship was established by the Harris children and the New Milford Farmland and Forest Preservation Committee from donations given in memory of Vivian and George G. Harris, longtime New Milford farmers and proponents of agriculture.
The Harris Family Farm has hosted 4-H meetings, Farm-City Day, agricultural and Farmland Preservation awareness events, and a pick-your-own pumpkin patch, which continues to this day.
Christopher Harris, the youngest of the Harris’s six grandchildren, has followed in their farming footsteps and is raising his first Brown Swiss cow, the breed for which Mr. Harris was famous in the dairy industry.
As one of the largest college scholarship providers in the region, Connecticut Community Foundation has over 130 scholarship funds to benefit area students.
Last year, the foundation awarded scholarships to over 400 students in Greater Waterbury and the Litchfield Hills.
The Harris Family Scholarship is one of the newest funds at the Foundation and will be awarded for the second time.
The deadline to apply is March 15.
