Just about a year after the shovel hit the ground in the spring of 2009 to kick start the long-anticipated Grove Street/Route 67 realignment project in New Milford, the final configuration of the intersection has taken shape.

Area residents are beginning to find hope the project's homestretch might soon be in the offing, several decades after the concept of a major intersection connecting Route 67, Grove Street, East and Bridge streets first fomented in the minds of the town's leadership, way back when.

Next up will be the completion of the Route 67 entrance into the intersection, especially the bridge over Great River, a.k.a Butter Brook, just a few yards from the Water Witch Hose Co. No. 2 firehouse.

The completion of the new stretch of Grove Street from the four-way intersection to the north end of Mill Street will be the final major piece of the puzzle, perhaps to be finished by this fall.
