New Milford Hospital will offer a Strong Women, Strong Bones Program, a nationally recognized fitness program for middle-aged and older women, in the coming months.

Three sessions will meet twice a week for seven weeks at sites in the Greater New Milford area.

The program is appropriate for most women; however, all participants 70 years of age and older must consult with their physician before beginning this exercise program.

Physician referral forms will be provided when registering for the program.

Exercises will focus on strength training to provide many potential benefits, including arthritis relief, restoration of balance and reduction of falls, strengthening of bones, proper weight maintenance and improved glucose control.

Classes will meet Mondays and Fridays from 10 to 11:15 a.m. from Jan. 7 through Feb. 22 and Tuesdays and Fridays from 2 to 3:15 p.m. Jan. 8 through April 22 and March 5 through April 19 at the First Congregational Church at 36 Main St. in New Milford; Mondays and Wednesdays from 2 to 3:15 p.m. Jan. 7 through Feb. 20 and March 4 through April 17 at the Washington Senior Center in Bryan Memorial Plaza in Washington; and Tuesdays and Saturdays from 10 to 11:15 a.m. Jan. 8 through Feb. 23 and March 5 through April 20 at the Kent Specialty Care Center at 46 Maple St. in Kent.

The cost is $85 per seven-week session, and the fee is pro-rated if someone joins mid-season.
