New Milford Hospital will offer a "StrongWomen, Strong Bones" program, a nationally recognized fitness program for middle-aged and older women, in the coming months.

Six classes will meet twice a week for seven weeks at three sites in the Greater New Milford area.

The program is appropriate for most women; however, all participants 70 years of age and older must consult with their physician before beginning this exercise program.

Physician referral forms will be provided when registering for the program.

Exercises will focus on strength training to provide many potential benefits, including arthritis relief, restoration of balance and reduction of falls, strengthening of bones, proper weight maintenance and improved glucose control.

Classes will meet: Mondays and Fridays from 10 to 11:15 a.m. Jan. 2 through Feb. 17 and March 5 through April 20 at the First Congregational Church at 36 Main St. in New Milford; Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10 to 11:15 a.m. Jan. 4 through Feb. 18 and March 7 through April 21 at The Kent Specialty Care Center in Kent; and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 to 3:45 p.m. Jan. 3 through Feb. 16 and March 6 through April 19 at the Brookfield Senior Center.

The cost is $85 for each seven-week session.
