William Henry Hawkins, 67, of New Milford, died peacefully Nov. 14 at the Kent Specialty Care Center in Kent. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Hawkins was born Jan. 5, 1945, in Stamford, son of the late William T. Hawkins and Emily L. (Williams) Hawkins.

He worked for Stebbins Refuse Service for several years and then for the town of New Milford, both in the Highway Department and the New Milford Recycling Center for 29-plus years before his retirement in 2005.

Mr. Hawkins is survived by two sisters and a brother, David Roy Hawkins, of New Milford, Lillian Ruth McBreairty, and her husband, Jeffrey, of New Milford, and Marye Margaret Thomas, of Florida; an aunt, Virginia (deZayes) Williams, who lives with her daughter in Lutz, Fla.; four cousins, Barbara Lamphere, and her husband, Maynard, of Lutz; Mariella Hurst, and her husband, Randy, of Lutz; and the late Bruce Williams' wife, Barbara, of North Carolina; and Patti (Williams) Clements, of Georgia; nine nieces and nephews, David Roy Hawkins Jr., and his wife, Jennifer; Angie Winsor, and her husband, Glen; Ana Baird, and her husband, Ronald; Bryan T. McBreairty, and his girlfriend, Gina Masi; Emily J. Dionne, and her husband Martin; Lillian S. McBreairty, and her boyfriend, Tom Smith; Terry Rogers and Jessie Thomas Jr.; and 15 grandnieces and nephews, Georgia Hawkins, Holle Hawkins, Emily Winsor, Gabbe Winsor, Tracy Baird, Jordan Rowland, Paul Brown, Frank Williams, Marialena Morales, Lmdsey Dionne, Myranda Dionne, Jennah Dionne, Donald Cherico and Isaiah Rowland.

Mr. Hawkins was predeceased by his grandparents, Frank H. and Margaret A. Williams, of South Norwalk; his uncle, Frank L. Williams, of Stamford; his great aunt, Lillian Cicatelli, of Port Chester, N.Y.; three cousins, Bruce L. Williams, of North Carolina, Diana Williams, of Stamford, and Denise Rowland, of Florida; a grandnephew, Bryan C. McBreairty, of Warren; and a grandniece, Amanda Ann McBreairty, of New Milford.

Calling hours will be Nov. 30 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St., New Milford.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
