'Where's Waldo?' scavenger hunt under way
Local businesses in downtown Washington are co-hosting a Where's Waldo? scavenger hunt with Waldo as the centerpiece.
The event honors the book character's 25th birthday.
Throughout the month of July, a nine-inch Waldo character, wearing a red and white striped shirt and black-rimmed spectacles, is hiding in 20 different places throughout Washington.
Residents of the community are invited to look for Waldo in participating businesses: the Hickory Stick Bookshop, Apple Tree Design Depot, Best Monogram, Green Hill Home & Garden, Huntington and Hope, J. McLaughlin, Kiddipity, Litchfield Bancorp, Marty's, National Iron Bank, The Pantry, Quo Vadis, Union Savings Bank, Washington Art Association, Washington Food Market, Washington Outdoor Living, Washington Pharmacy, The Washington Pizza House, Washington Sports and Washington Supply.
Waldo moves at night so he is never in the same place day after day.
When Waldo is found, participants will be given a claim card from the business. After collecting eight cards, participants will bring them to Hickory Stick Bookshop and receive a Waldo button.
After collecting 12 cards, participants will be entered into a drawing to receive a grand prize of a six-volume set of Waldo books.
Other prizes are available too.
A Waldo wrap-up party will be held July 31 at 4 p.m. at the book store.
