Tim Tyler recently received this photograph from his aunt Shirley. The photograph is of Tyler’s great-grandfather, George W. Riley, who was born in 1861 and died in 1935. Riley was a chef at a restaurant, the New England House hotel at the corner of Main and Bank streets — where the 19 Main venue is today — as well as a chef at the Park Pharmacy, both in New Milford. Tyler and his family believe the photograph might have been taken at the New England House 1880 and 1900, but the writing on the photo says “Railroad Street.” If you have any information about the exact location of this photograph, or if you would like to submit a “Way Back When” photograph, contact Deborah Rose at drose@newstimes.com or 860-355-7324.
