Stephen Grogg, 32, of Warren was killed Thursday, Jan. 23, as the result of two-vehicle accident in Litchfield, according to police.

State Police said speed was a factor in the head-on collision.

He was pronounced dead Jan. 23 at 11:30 a.m. at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington.

Police said the car driven by Grogg crossed the center line on Route 202, near the intersection of Route 202, Constitution Way and Milton Road, and collided with a pickup truck.

Grogg wasn't wearing a seat belt, according to police, and later died of internal injuries.

Tara Carvell, 30, of 30 Angevine Road in Warren, who was Grogg's passenger, suffered internal injuries and broken bones. She was taken by Morris ambulance to St. Mary's Hospital in Waterbury, police said.

The driver of the Ford Ranger pickup, Dorian Hickton, 55, of 188 East Albert St. in Torrington, absorbed internal injuries and lacerations. He was transported by LifeStar helicopter to Hartford Hospital, according to police.

State police request those who witnessed the crash call Trooper Jim Holm at 860-567-8596 in Litchfield.

According to the state judicial website, Grogg had been scheduled to appear Jan. 24 at Bantam Superior Court. He was facing charges of failure to obey a stop sign, failure to drive in the right lane, and speeding a car more than 70 miles per hour in a 40 miles per hour zone.

The charges stemmed from a Nov. 21 stop by New Milford police.
