New Milford Hospital has received a $500 grant from the Walmart Foundation and the New Milford Walmart to support the hospital's youth chef advocacy program.

Developed in collaboration with New Milford pediatrician Dr. Diane D'Isidori and local chef Anne Gallagher, it is a community-based nutrition and health education program for children in grades 7 through 10.

As many as 12 New Milford students are accepted into the program each year through a competitive application process.

Participants explore health and nutrition-related topics through hands-on culinary skills and cooking instruction; field trips to state farms and fisheries; and community meals for which students demonstrate newly acquired culinary skills and speak about the importance of good nutrition and healthy living.
