Vandermeer to perform internationally
The Brazilian government's Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil has invited Gaylordsville resident resident Zoe Vandermeer to perform at two international festivals in the coming weeks.
The operatic soprano and Welsh harpist will perform at the Sao Paolo Harp Festival in a few weeks and at the Rio Harp Festival in mid-May.
She is the only representative of the United States at these world renowned Brazilian harp festivals.
Vandermeer, who is on the performing artist roster of the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism, will perform her world premiere “Le Rossignol” that she composed especially for the opening day of the Sao Paolo Harp Festival.
The work features her coloratura voice and Welsh triple harp.
Vandermeer is the only operatic singing Welsh triple harpist in the world.
She had her Carnegie Hall debut Oct. 26, 2014 as first place winner of the Barry Alexander International Vocal Competition, and won first place in the Bay Area Vocal Arts Competition in California.
Vandermeer has had numerous radio appearances in Scotland and the US.
