U-Haul business moves from Brookfield to New Milford

Finding office space was no problem for Paul Burrachio. His business requires only a few desks, a handful of chairs and a small area for moving supplies.

The tricky part was finding a building with enough parking for a small fleet of U-Haul trucks and Hertz rental cars. Burrachio recently moved his vehicle rental business, which operates as Permaclean, from Brookfield to New Milford for that reason.

His previous location on Federal Road in Brookfield served Burrachio well as a Hertz dealership, but when he added U-Haul trucks to his offerings, he was forced to park the colorful trucks behind the building due to zoning regulations.

His new location at 48 Anderson Ave. in New Milford is more off the beaten path, but allows Burrachio to keep more trucks and trailers on hand. He moved to New Milford last month.

“We parked the trucks in the back for about a year (in Brookfield), but couldn’t grow anymore,” Burrachio said. “We looked around and found the best location that would allow parking for cars and trucks.”

Berkshire Printing previously occupied the entire building at 48 Anderson Ave. before being sold in 2013 and downsized. It still has a presence there, but the building is now home to several tenants, including The Hobby Hangout and Wainscot Solutions. Burrachio runs his rental business out of the lobby area and has signage at the main entrance.

Burrachio offers the only Hertz rental cars in New Milford. Plan B Tire Shop on Valmar Drive also offers U-Haul services.

“The U-Haul business is really taking off,” Burrachio said. “There’s nothing north of us and when you are paying by the mile, you want the closest dealership. We’re convenient for people in places like Roxbury and Kent. We’re in a good spot.”

Permaclean is open Monday through Saturday, but offers 24/7 pickup and drop-off.

Burrachio is running a food drive all summer for Loaves & Fishes Hospitality House of New Milford. Customers or anyone wishing to donate may drop off canned food at his Hertz/U-Haul office.

“I want to be part of the community,” he said.
