NEW MILFORD — A vehicle that recently collided with a building in New Milford caused only minor damage, according to police.

A Chevy Colorado truck rolled into the Midway Market & Deli at 88 Park Lane Road on March 6, two days after an SUV crashed through King’s Breakfast & Lunch in Newtown.

Store employees were just “hanging out” when they suddenly heard a noise, said Midway Market employee James Thompson. “It didn’t even sound like a car hitting the building.”

Turns out that a truck left in the wrong gear rolled over a cement wheel-stop and into the storefront, shattering the market’s front window and leaving an indent in the building’s brick exterior façade.

“The guy was just running in to buy a bag of chips,” said Thompson. “It’s not something you expect to happen.”

First responders were at the scene within minutes and no injuries were reported, he said, adding that employees were away from the window at the time and there were no customers inside the store.

Thompson said the truck didn’t appear to have any dents — “just a lot of scratches” — and that the building inspector was going to come by to assess the damage.

Police Lt. Lawrence Ash said the crash caused only “minor damage,” and there was no enforcement since the incident took place in a parking lot.

The crash may have brought some “added excitement” to an otherwise ordinary day at the market, said Thompson, but it didn’t slow down business.

Not long after first responders cleared the scene, customers were in and out of the market.

“We’re still selling sandwiches,” said Thompson.
