In nearly every way but on the final scoreboard, the New Milford High School field hockey team distinguished itself in the state class `L' tournament semifinals.

In spite of a strong effort by goaltender Macey Farnsworth and the NMHS defensive corps, the Green Wave lost a 1-0 decision to offensive power Glastonbury during Tuesday's match at Watertown High School.

The defeat closed the books on a 16-3-2 campaign for coach Dawn Hough's talented stick crew. The girls earlier had soared past Hall of West Hartford, 7-3, and edged South Windsor, 1-0, to reach the state's Round of Four for the first time in coach Hough's tenure.

NMHS played for state championships four times from 1978 to 1983 but came up empty each time, twice with then Green Wave athlete Dawn Hough as a contributing player.
