Titans rule on the baseball diamond
A squad of 12 and younger youth baseball players from New Milford called the Titans captured its 12B league championship late this summer.
The Titans defeated Westport Aug. 5 to claim the title after outplaying the New Milford Storm in an earlier elimination game.
With temperatures reaching into the 90s and amid high humidity, the Titans traveled Aug. 5 to Westport needing to win two games for the title.
The Titans jumped out to a quick three-run lead in the first inning of Game One only to be answered by four Westport runs in the home half.
The shoreline team still led, 8-5, heading to the top of the sixth inning, but the Titans rallied to score six runs and grab an 11-8 cushion.
Zach Prachach then came on in relief on the mound to shut the door on the Westport bats and force a decisive second game.
Game Two quickly became a pitchers' duel as both teams tried playing a little "small ball" to get runners in scoring position.
After five innings, the teams were knotted at 3-3.
In the top of the sixth, New Milford was able to get the final out of the inning with the potential go-ahead run for Westport on base.
In the bottom of the inning, the Titans loaded the bases with a hit and two walks.
Westport pulled its infield in for a possible play at home plate, but Tyler Timan ripped a pitch hard right at the shortstop and Titans teammate Zack Matson barely beat the throw home to decide a 4-3 game and clinch the championship.
Contributing their efforts to the title cause were Jimmy Lewis, Devin Collentine, Zack Matson, Robert Mitchell, Chris Bucci, Tyler Timan, Andrew Usaty, Kyle Fabich, Zach Prahach, Miles Davis, Bobby Berry and coaches Scott Fabich, Tom Timan and Charlie Prahach.
